New series for Claire! Article via The Hollywood Reporter:
Claire Danes is taking on the lead role in Apple’s drama series The Essex Serpent.
The former Homeland star takes over for Keira Knightley, who was cast in the project last year but later dropped out, citing concerns around a rise in novel coronavirus cases in the U.K.
The Essex Serpent is based on an award-winning novel by Sarah Perry. Danes will play Cora, a recently widowed woman who, having been released from an abusive marriage, relocates from Victorian London to the small village of Aldwinter in Essex. There she becomes intrigued by a local superstition that a mythical creature known as the Essex Serpent has returned to the area.
Anna Symon (Mrs. Wilson) is adapting Perry’s book and will serve as lead writer on the project, and Clio Barnard (The Selfish Giant, Dark River) will direct. Both are executive producing alongside Jamie Laurenson, Hakan Kousetta, Patrick Walters, Iain Canning and Emile Sherman. Andrea Cornwell produces.
See-Saw Films (Ammonite, Top of the Lake) is producing the series for Apple.
The Essex Serpent will be the first series for Danes since Homeland wrapped its eight-season run on Showtime in April 2020. She won three Emmys for playing CIA operative Carrie Mathison on the series. Danes is repped by Michael Aglion at Signpost, WME and Ziffren Brittenham.
For this season of Variety’s Actors on Actors, it was all virtual.
Claire Danes was paired with Damien Lewis (Homeland, Billions). There is still no release date for their episode.
The new season of the Emmy-winning series was filmed entirely from actors’ homes and includes one-on-one conversations between stars from potential contending shows in this year’s Emmy race. The first two episodes will premiere on PBS SoCal on Friday, July 17, at 8 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. with episodes three and four premiering on Friday, July 24, at 8 p.m. and 8:30 pm. All episodes will stream on pbssocal.org and on the free PBS Video app following their premieres.
“Variety is excited to debut the 2020 ‘Actors on Actors’ Emmy Edition directly from the safety of the homes of this season’s top Emmy-award contending talent,” said Variety group publisher and chief revenue officer, Michelle Sobrino-Stearns. “Our partnership with PBS SoCal on Variety’s three-time Emmy winning series takes our viewers inside the biggest television shows of the past year through these candid one-on-one conversations.”
PBS SoCal president and CEO Andrew Russell adds, “We’re pleased to be working closely with our partners at Variety on a remarkable new season of Variety Studio: Actors on Actors. Nationwide, PBS stations continue their support and appreciation of ‘Actors on Actors’ because our viewers are interested in its special, behind-the-scenes view into Southern California’s entertainment industry and the people who make it so unique. The new lineup of actors is sure to please as these in-depth conversations are relevant now more than ever.”
Variety’s Actors on Actors issue will hit newsstands on June 23 with clips appearing on Variety.com starting June 22nd. “Variety Studio: Actors on Actors” will air on PBS stations across the nation starting in July, and on the WORLD Channel (check local listings).

How do you think your @SHO_Homeland characters would do in a lockdown situation?
“Carrie would not be following any protocol.”

Here’s the trailer for the final episode of Homeland. It all comes down between Carrie and Saul.
After about a year closed, I’ve decided to bring the site back online. We have a new url, ClaireDanes.org, and I’m working on an entirely new gallery.
The gallery is about ready, I just need to batch add the photos, which will be done in the next few days as I have over 89.000 files to add. So yes, it’s just taking a bit.
Are you excited for Sunday’s Final episode of Homeland. I’m sad to see the show go, but it’s going out with a bang and it’s a wonderful way to end a series.
Stay tuned and watch the site and our Twitter, ClaireDanesOrg for updates, as I’ll be posting whenever I updated a category.
